Abstract
This research was evaluated the level of maintainability of the lexical items that related to traditional house of The Batu Bara Malay. This research was included in ecolinguistics field. Qualitative research method was applied for this research as a methodology. As the result of the of this research totally 210 (two hundred and ten) lexical items were described to traditional house in the Batu Bara Malay (BBM) that were classified into five categorizations. For Top Parts, totally were 37 lexical items or about (17.62%) include 21 or about (10%) interior’s items and 16 or about (7.62%) exterior’s items. For Middle Parts, totally were 55 lexical items or about (26.19%) include 45 or about (21.43%) interior’s items and 10 or (4.76%) exterior’s items. For Bottom Parts, totally 13 lexical items or about (6.19%) include 2 or (0.95%) interior’s items and 11 or (5.24%) exterior’s items. For Outdoor Items on the whole totally 27 or about (12.86%) exterior’s items. For the Extended Items that were related to Housing totally 78 items or about (37.14%). It can be concluded that middle part was the most lexical items among all categorizations. The bottom parts were the least one. The current result in this research, there is a risk point for using of the lexical items that correlated to house.
About 38 % of the respondents know and use frequently (‘know with frequent use’) the lexical items that were related to traditional house of Batu Bara Malay (BBM). About 13 % of respondents know the lexical items but with rare or infrequent use (‘know with infrequent use’). If combine the two categories (‘know with frequent use’ and ‘know with infrequent use’) were totaled become 51 % was obtained. There was another category of respondent who use the lexical items but do not know about (the meaning of) the word (‘not know but use’). The proportion is about 3 % if the three categories are totaled a proportion of 55 % is obtained. The proportion indicates that more than a half of the respondents use the lexical items. The proportion of 55 % indicates that the majority of the respondents use the lexical items. This research was done in the limited number of data source. Data source was taken from one district only. There are twelve disctricts in Batu Bara Regency.
