Abstract
The aims of this study are to find out the types of translation, to describe why the types used and to explain how the students in translating English collocation into Bahasa collocation in Narrative text. This research was conducted by descriptive qualitative research design. The data were the translation of the collocations used in Narrative texts for tenth grade students of senior high school. The techniques of collecting the data were by translating, selecting and analyzed the texts. After analysing the data, the translation of the collocations of the Narrative text used by the students was free translation. 80% lexical collocations and 62% lexical collocations were found. Further, the way of the students in translating the english collocation into Bahasa collocation such as analyzed, transfer and restructure. The used of collocation in each genre texts were significantly different. And the reason why the free translation used by the tenth grade students because the students lack of knowledge, differences meaning between English and Bahasa, and low mastery of vocabulary.
