Abstract
The objectives of this study were to identify the types of conversational implicatures, to describe how the conversational implicatures are used and the reasons of the conversational implicatures uttered by five-years-old children at Taman Kanak-Kanak Islam Terpadu ( TKIT) Permata Hati Tebing Tinggi.This research was conducted by using qualitative descriptive design. The data were the utterances spoken by the children. The data analyzed by using the theory of conversational implicatures. The result of this study were: (1) The type of conversational implicatures namely generalized conversational implicature. It means that the children gave clear implicit meaning. (2) The process of producing conversational implicatures occured by flouting quantity, relation and manner maxims. (3) The reasons of using conversational implicatures based on the maxim analysis were:to state opinion, to save selves by lying, to avoid discomfort things.It is suggested to conduct the same topic with more subjects with different ages to see the difference between them more accurately.
