Abstract
The present study deals with the investigation of ideological shift of text in literary translation through the Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) point of view. The critical discourse analysis was conducted to determine the occurance of ideological shift categories of text in the translation process of the novel. Furthermore, the realization of shift was identified by looking at the lexicogrammatical structure of text, they are; lexical and grammatical aspects. And the reason of shift itself was viewed from the ideology in translation; ideology of domestication, and foreignization. This research uses descriptive qualitative design. The source of data was the English and Indonesian version of the novel. The sample was selected uses systematic random sampling technique. The data was collected through discourse analysis and documentation process. Further, in the analysis itself, the metafuntional theory of language, lexicogrammatical aspects of text, and ideology in translation were used. Then, the result of the analysis revealed that the intermetafunctional shift is the most significant category found in the text (90.24%), while the intra-metafunctional shift was only found once (9.75%). Related to realization of shift, shifts were realized at grammatical to lexical level. With the percentage; at grammatical aspects 73.17%, and the rest 26.83% realized at lexical level. And the reasons of shifts were dominantly affected by domestication strategy (78.05%), and foreignization strategy (21.95%) of translation.
