Abstract
This research deals with intertextuality on oral discourse in sari matua batak toba
ceremony. This research is conducted qualitatively by applying technique analysis
of Bazerman. The data are utterances obtained from transcription of the ceremony.
The result shows that these three kinds of intertextuality are found in sari matua
Batak Toba ceremony namely quotation, reference, and allusion. It can be seen
that Allusion mostly occurred in the data. The way of intertextuality in sari matua
Batak Toba ceremony is realized by some elements of intertextuality itself.
Quotation is identified through the presence of lexical expressions such as
mandok, manungkun, hatahononku, di dok, pinasihat. Reference is identified by
seeing the text which reflected, re-contextualized dan re-accentuated. Allusion is
identified by referring the text to literature, historical art, story, person even place.
The reason of intertextuality realized in sari matua Batak Toba ceremony because
the text the text which quoted, referred to and alluded to from the past time can be
reflected in ourlives in the present time.
