Abstract
The research is aimed at discussing collocation in translation. The theories in this thesis are about collocations and translation procedure. The research
method used in this thesis is descriptive qualitative design. The objectives of this research are to find out whether the Batak Toba collocations are properly
translated into Indonesian, describe translation procedure of Batak Toba collocations, and describe the reason for applying translation procedure in translating collocations novel entitled Mandera Na Metmet written by Saut Poltak Tambunan.
The results of the research applied McCarthy and O’Dell (2008) showed there are 7 types of collocation consisted in the novel, namely: Noun + Noun, Verbs + Noun, Adjectives + Noun, Verbs + Adverbs, Adverbs + Adjectives, and Verbs + expression of prepositions, then, the translation procedures supported by Vinay and Darbelnet (2000) namely: literal, modulation, adaptation, transposition, calque, and equivalence with the total number 210 clauses. The findings are expected to contribute a better understanding of translation procedure for collocations.
