Abstract
This study dealt with deixis in Hoho lyrics of Nias traditional songs which consisted of 4 songs they are hoho wangowai dome, hoho famadaya hasijimate, hoho moyo,
and hoho faluaya. The objectives of the study were to investigate the deixis types (personal deixis, spatial deixis and temporal deixis) used in hoho by using Saeed’s
theory. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data were taken from the words, phrases or sentences from hoho lyrics. For collecting
data, this study used the method of literature study. The findings showed that the total numbers of deixis classification were 176. There were (66%) Person deixis, (14%) temporal deixis and (20%) spatial deixis. The use of person deixis became the most dominant types of deixis classification found in hoho after the use of spatial and
temporal. The meanings of deixis types (personan, spatial and temporal) found in Hoho to show their happinesss, honour, wishes or hopes.
