Abstract
This research deals with the analysis of shifts in cohesion and coherence in Indonesian version of Scorch Trials. The objectives of this study were: (1) to describe the types of cohesion and coherence shifts (2) to explain the reason why the cohesion and coherence shifts occurred. In this study, it was found Indonesian Personification was the new categories found besides the prior category which is proposed by Blum-Kulka. In detail, it is dominated of cohesion shift was level of explicitness which the target text is lower than source text 51.16% (44 data), and Indonesian Personification 1.16% (1 data), and the domination of coherence shift was the same form and the same function in another language 44.57% (44 data). The reason of shifts in cohesion caused by context on translation by Nida, was dominated by style context 65.12% (56 data). Meanwhile, the reason of shifts in coherence caused by context on translation also by Nida, was dominated by linguistic context 44.57% (41 data).
