Genre-Based Analysis of Student’s Descriptive Text in Tenth Grade Students of SMKN 1 Binjai

This study was a Genre-Based Analysis of Students’ Descriptive Text in Tenth Grade Students of SMKN 1 Binjai. The objective of this research is to identify the problems faced by the tenth grade students in writing descriptive text. This research conducted by using descriptive qualitative research. The subject of this research was the tenth grade students at SMKN 1 Binjai. There were 32 students in the class. The collecting data were writing test and interview sheet. The results of the study showed that the students of SMKN 1 Binjai have low ability in mastering English., especially writing. The researcher found t here were some mistakes made by students. From 32 number of data, there were four students did not complete the element of generic structure. Three students did not make the identification and two students did not make description. The problems faced by the students were; (1) The students did not understand the generic structure of descriptive text, (2) The student did not understand the purpose of descriptive text. (3) The student did not write well in English.
