Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find the types of Politeness Strategies in Karo wedding. And to find dominant types and explain dominant mean of Politeness Strategies itself. Based on Brown and Levinson’s theory (1987) there are 4 types of politeness strategies, they are Bald on-record, positive politeness, negative politeness and off the record. This study focused on positive politeness and negative politeness. This study used the qualitative method to solve the problems. The data of this study were taken from 60 sentences of conversation in acara ngerana between Sukut and bridegrooms. For collecting the data this study used one technique, that is observation. Analysis tehcnique used which were identifying, classifying, describing and explaining. The finding of this study are there are 98% types of positive politeness and 2% type of negative politeness from 60 sentences used in this wedding.
