POLITENESS STRATEGIES USED BY ENGLISH TEACHERS IN THE CLASSROOM

The research dealt with politeness strategies used by English teachers in the classroom. The aims of this study were: (1) to analyze the types of politeness strategies used by English teachers in the classroom (2) to find the dominant types
of politeness strategies used by English teachers in the classroom (3) to elaborate the reasons why the used of politeness strategies in the ways they are. This study
used descriptive qualitative design. The data were collected by following instruments: observing, video recording and interviewing.The finding of this study revealed that: (1) There were four politeness strategies found during teaching learning process which used by English teachers, which are: Bald On
Record, Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness and Off Record. (2) The dominant types used by English teachers in SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Pura was Bald On Record Strategy, specifically Bald On Record was used 55 times by 3 English teachers in SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung Pura (2) For the reasons why the used
of politeness strategies by English teachers in SMA Negeri 1 Tanjung during teaching learning process were to describe that politeness are the best sentences, soften and politely. And it is very important applied in the classroom because it
will make it easier for teachers to teach the students and students teachers respect each other. Furthermore, this strategy successful applies in classroom during learning process to know very well character of the students.
