THE USE OF TABOO WORDS IN LOGAN 2017 MOVIE

This study aims to find out the types and the functions of taboo words that are uttered by the characters in Logan 2017 Movie. Qualitative Method is used to analyze the data. The result of this study shows 182 data consists of two analysis which 136 data for the Types and 46 data for Functions of Taboo Words. In analysis of types of taboo words, the highest data is Obscenity with 48 expressions, second is Slang with 25 expressions, followed by Epithets with 21 expressions, Taboo with 12 expressions, Vulgarity with 10 expressions and Profanity with 8 expressions, and the lowest data belongs to Scatology with 7 expressions, Insult and Slurs with 3 expressions and Cursing with 2 expressions. In analysis Functions of Taboo Words, the highest data is to Draw Attention to Oneself with 22 utterances, Second is to Show Contempt with 18 utterances and The lowest is to be Provocative with 6 utterances. The reason why obscenity is the most appearing type is because it is the most effective way to express feelings and insult someone and the most function of taboo words is to draw attention to oneself because the characters in this movie frequently uttered word obscenity to show their disrespect toward the addressee and want the addressee to pay attention to them.
