Abstract
This research aims to determine students' Preliminary Mathematical Knowledge of solving Higher Order Thinking Skills questions in terms of analytical questions, evaluation questions, creating questions and to find out the factors that cause students to wrong in solving Higher Order Thinking Skills questions. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects in this study were students of class XII MIA 2 SMAN 2 Kisaran which amounted to 36 students. Data collection techniques using written tests, feeling sheets and interviews. From the research results obtained This shows the answer score of 36 students of class XII MIA 2 in completing question number 1 has only reached 40%. Likewise for the other questions, so that the score of the students' answer questions in question number 2 is 26.94%, the question number 3 is 50.83%, the question number 4 is 33.33%, the problem number 5 is 48.05%. Factors that cause students to wrongly solve Higher Order Thinking Skills questions include lack of thoroughness in the process of working on questions, not yet fully knowing the prerequisite material, students 'low mathematical initial knowledge, the process that is passed during learning is not optimal, the lack of students' understanding of problems, incompleteness in reading problems and lack of attention from parents.
