Abstract
This research deals with Lexical metaphor in novel. The objective of this research
were: 1) to investigate the types of lexical metaphor in novel of Sang Pemimpi, 2)
to describe process of lexical metaphor in novel of Sang Pemimpi, and 3) to
elaborate the reasons of lexical metaphor are used in novel of Sang Pemimpi. This
research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research. The data were
obtained from novel of Sang Pemimpi and source of the data were novel by
Andrea Hirata, 2012 Published by Bentang which contained 138 pages and 14
chapters by purposive sampling. The data were collected by documentary sheet.
The data analysis used interactive model by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The
finding showed that 1) there were 71 utterances that contained of lexical metaphor
in novel of Sang Pemimpi by Andrea Hirata, namely 21 (29.60%) for noun-noun,
31 (43.68%) for noun-verb, 13 (18.30%) for noun-adjective, 2 (2.81%) for nounverb/adjective, 2) the process of lexical metaphor in novel Sang Pemimpi, namely
noun-noun, noun-verb, noun-adjective, noun-verb/adjective, verb-adjective, and
verb-preposition. 3) the contexts of lexical metaphor realized in novel of Sang
Pemimpi was to describe personality of 3 malay youth who live in environments
that have economic constraints. In this study, the new finding were 2 (2.81%) for
verb-adjective, 1 (1.40%) for verb-preposition/noun, 1 (1.40%) for nounadjective/noun as new finding.
