Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of the ability critical thinking and metacognitive skills of students with a learning approach problem-based learning and students with conventional learning. This study was a quasi-experimental design with the pretest- posttest group design . The research variables include the independent variable (model learning) and the dependent variable (the ability of critical thinking and metacognitive ability). The Samples were taken using purposive sampling . The hypothesis with the t-test to determine the effect of critical thinking ability and metacognitive ability of students’ on the experiment class with a problem-based learning and
grade control with conventional learning. The data obtained was data critical thinking ability of tests content’s biology and metacognitive ability from the questionnaire. The hypothesis test results indicated the effect of approaches problem based learning to students' critical thinking ability and metacognitive ability of students. The conclusion of this study is learning model of problem-based learning significantly effect students' critical thinking ability and the metacognitive ability class VIII MTs 1 Rantauprapat.
