Abstract

The process of managing tannery industrial wastewater which is not good has the potential to contaminate heavy metal chromium. Therefore, public health analysis to determine the concentration of chromium in the blood and its accumulation in the hair of the residents of the
Banyakan village-Bantul Yogyakarta, is very important to be carried out as an effort to protect public health. The study was carried out in the area of the liquid waste disposal industry in the leather industry, including 5 sampling points with the type of media in the form of blood and hair. Cr analysis procedure is carried out based on APHA (2001). The amount of heavy metal concentration was analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS). 70.37% of the respondents were exposed to heavy metal chromium in the blood with an average concentration of 0.495 μg.L-1, while 51.85% of respondents were exposed to heavy metal chrome in hair with an average concentration of 0.597 μg.L-1. The amount of exposure to chromium in the blood and hair
is influenced by the type of work, age and sex.
