Abstract
This study dealt with positive politeness strategies used by Angkolanese. The objectives of this study were to find out the types and to describe the realization and the reasons of positive politeness strategies used by Angkolanese. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research. The objects of study were the natural daily conversations of Angkolanese families living in Tanobato, all written data were the transcriptions of recorded observation and interview. All of the respondents were born and used Angkola language as their mother tongue. The findings showed that there were ten strategies of positive politeness strategies applied by Angkolanese in Tanobato, Angkola language realized the positive politeness by using identity markers, seeking agreement and avoiding disagreement, and the reasons for Angkolanese used positive politeness strategies are to build and maintain good familiarity with avoiding conflict.
