Abstract
This study is intended to design a model of learning reading by using Constructive reading model (CRM). This CRM is simple and easy to be applied, the units are designed systematically, it trains the students to understand reading materials comprehensively. It is presented orderly, systematically, helpfully, and the topics given were familiar. It helps the students to set up their skill or ability to understand the text correctly. It is used in order to see whether the model is effective or not in improving the students reading comprehension.In order to achieve the goals, this study is focused on two problems that should be answered in this study, namely: 1) Does Constructive Reading Model (CRM) significantly affect the students reading comprehension achievement?. and 2) In which Reading Subject is Constructive Reading Model (CRM) effectively implemented?.The subject of this study is the semester I and semester II of English Department FKIP Simalungun University of Pematangsiantar. The subject was divided into two groups namely: the experimental group and control group. The experimental group was the group which CRM was applied and control group was the group which CRM was not applied.The data of this study were obtained from the result of the tests (pre and post test) and the result of the questionnaire and interview. Furthermore, the data of this study were analyzed by Product Moment Formula to prove whether the model is effective or not in improving the students reading comprehensions.The result of the analysis shows that the Constructive Reading Model (CRM) is effective and significant to improve students reading comprehension achievement. It could be seen from the gained score of the two tests and descriptive statistics. The results taken from the interview also indicate that Constructive Reading Model (CRM) is effective and significant in improving students reading ability.
