Abstract
The purpose of this study was to conduct the idiomatic expression in Deli Malay wedding ceremony by using two theories. The first theory was forms of idiom that come from Mordie’s theory and the second was types of idiom by Charles F Hockectt. Idiomatic expression itself which aimed to know the purpose of an oral tradition. The method used in this paper was descriptive and qualitative. For collecting the data the researcher became an instrument by doing observation and unstructured interview. Analysis technique used which were transcribing, reading, comprehending, investigating, describing, and explaining. The findings of idiom that uttered by telangkai contained gratitude, honor, tradition, persuasion, joke, hoping a kindness, signifying a peace, welcoming guest, enthusiastic, teasing which briefly supported by forms and types of idiom. Forms of idiom showed us about long and short idiom. Types of idiom had 5 models, they were figures of speech, abbreviation phrasal compounds, proper names, subtitutes, and english phrasal compunds.
