Abstract
The aims of this study are to find out the types of collocation used in English textbook for grade XI of senior high school and to describe how the collocations applying in 3 genre texts contained in the textbook. This research was conducted by descriptive qualitative research design through four stages; 1) Data collection, 2) Data reduction, 3) Data presentation, and 4) Conclusion or verification. The data of this study were the collocations used in 3 genre texts from an English textbook for grade XI of senior high school. The techniques of collecting the data were by reading, selecting and coding the texts. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that the collocations used in the 3 genre text were grammatical and lexical collocation. 3 from 7 grammatical collocations and 6 out of 7 lexical collocations were found. Further, it was found that the used of collocations in each genre text were different. The used of collocation in each genre texts were significantly different. There were some more dominant word components in the merging of words in each genre text.
