Abstract
The objective of this research is to know the effectiveness of the implementation of tense diagram in order to decrease thethe student misconception in understanding English tense and know the students perception toward the of imlemenation of tense diagram in teaaching English tenses. The thirs year students of SLTP Negeri 27 Medan is chosen as the subject of the research.The data are collected by test and quetionnaire. The test is used to know the students misconceptions in understanding English tense and the quetionnaire is used to know the students perception towars the implemention of tense diagran in teaching English Tenses. Then both Type of data are analyzed by simple statistical percentage analysis . the research result in that 1) the implementation of tense diagram is effective to decrease the students misconception in understanding english tense because there is a significant improvement of the students ability in tense reaching 40,59 (very poor) equivalence to mean of misconception ranging from 0-58 or very high before treatment to be 70.75(good) or wquivalence to 25-36 or moderate after treatment. This means the students mean of misconception 25-36(moderate). 2) and second the students perception toward the tense diagram is good and positive, 3) the students attendance is also relatively active reaching 90% of average every meeting,and 4) the most frequent activity done by the students during the course is answering the teacher’s question with 42.64% in average.
