Abstract
This research is supposed to describe the errors in recount text. In addition, this research is also aimed to describe the possible causes of those errors. This study applied the descriptive qualitative approach of which the data were obtained from the recount texts that were written by the tenth grade students of SMK Mandiri Percut Sei Tuan. the data were collected by using students’ recount texts and interview. The data then were analyzed by identifying the errors first, then classifying types of errors, interpreting and explaining the findings and the last concluding the finding. The result of the research indicates that the students made 207 grammatical errors which were classified into: omission errors 38 items (18.35 %), addition errors 28 items (13.52%), misformation errors 107 items (51.69%), and misordering errors 34 items (16.42%). The students’ errors were caused by interference contributes 32.8% and intralingual transfer 67.2%. So, the most dominant types of errors made by the tenth grade students in writing recount text is misformation.
