Abstract
The 2004 Competency-based Curriculum (CBC) of EFL education in Indonesia (EFLEI) has been nationally applied for some time. Trainings of trainers and teacher have been going on in various parts of Indonesia along the way. However, certain critical concepts may still need futher explanation and this holds true with their applications in practical terms. This articles will briefly discuss the critical concepts in quetion and how they are implemented in applied contexts. In this the discussion will focus on the nation of competence and its related aspects. The view of language and its related aspect, and the view of language learning and the question of literacy levels. On which the curriculum is based and oriented to, it will make an attempt to show some points of contact between the competency-based model and the educational contexts, from which the curriculum derives its resources.
