Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find the types and to know the used of satire that were found in Malay traditional proverb itself. Based on Alviani’s theory there are 5 types of satire they are irony, cynicism, sarcasm, satire and innuendo. This study used the qualitative method to solve the problems. The data of this study were taken from 31 Malay proverbs that are selected randomly before. For collecting the data this
study used two techniques they are observation and interview technique. Analysis technique used which were identifying, classifying, describing and explaining. The
finding of this study are there are seventeen proverbs included in irony, ten proverbs of cynicism, one of satire, and three proverbs included in innuendo type. The used of satire is to express the opinion indirectly because in Malay culture it is disallowed to express something or something bad directly.
