Abstract
The objectives of this study were to investigate the types of teacher’s feedback, to find out the most dominant type and to explain the process of giving feedback on students’ recount text at grade eight of SMP Swasta Islam Azizi Medan. This research used descriptive qualitative method and the data were collected through
observation, documentation and interview. The framework undertaken is proposed by Ellis and the interview question was adapted from Thorsteinsen. The data was
analyzed in four steps; (1) data collection, (2) data reduction, (3) data display, and (4) conclusion and drawing verification. The findings found that there were 5 kinds of feedbacks namely, direct written feedback, indirect written feedback, focus and unfocused feedback, and reformulation. The most dominant of teacher’s
feedback especially on written used in students’ recount text was direct feedback. It was 87 data or 70 %. Based on the analysis of interview, the teacher has process
in giving teacher’s feedback such as analyzing, responding were done , then giving the work to the students so that they can understand the using of text. In conclusion, teachers’ feedbacks are important to make students aware of making mistake on writing task. The findings suggested that English teachers should give
written feedback to students’ writing task to enable them improve the skill.
