Abstract

The objective of this study is to find whether the student’s problem solving ability which taught by cooperative learning STAD is better NHT type in SMP Swasta Pahlawan Nasional Medan academic year 2018/2019. The population of this study is the students who sit in VII grade in SMP Swasta Pahlawan Nasional Medan.
There are 2 taken samples, they are experiment class I and II. Experiment class I is the students who sit in class VII-9 and they will be treated by cooperative
learning STAD type. Experiment class II is the students who sit in class VII-10 and they will be treated by cooperative learning NHT type. The quantity of the
students in both class are 32. The analyzing data techniques used are normality, homogeneity, and hypotheses. Based on the result of the data which has been processed by using Microsoft Excel, the normality testing calculation shows that the data is normally distributed. Homogeneity testing calculation shows that the variance is homogeneous. The hypotheses testing data shows that there exists the difference between student’s mathematical problem solving ability which taught
by STAD and NHT. The average score of post-test which taught by Student Team Achievement Division is higher than Numbered Head Together, then the researcher concludes that the student’s problem solving ability which taught by Students Team Achievement Division (STAD) learning model is better than Numbered Head Together (NHT) in VII grade student of SMP Swasta Pahlawan
Nasional Medan.
