Abstract
The objective of this study is: develop English reading materials for the tenth grade students
of Islamic Senior High School at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Kisaran .This research was aimed
to develop reading materials for Grade X Students of Islamic Senior High School at MAN
Kisaran. This study was conducted by Research and Development (R & D) design through six
phases; gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing new materials, validating
by experts, revising new material, and producing the final product. The subject of this study
was the grade X students of MAN Kisaran. The data and sources of data were the existing
materials, syllabus, teacher’s interview and students’ questionnaire result. After analyzing the
data, the students’ need were found that the students should be upgrade their islamic
knowledge in English. The new reading materials were developed and had been validated by
experts. The average scores are 4.4 from English subject teacher and 4.5 from English
lecturer. It means the developed reading materials are categorized as relevant and categorized
as good for students at MAN Kisaran.
