Abstract
The research was aimed to develop the appropriate speaking materials based on
Communicative Language Teaching for the eighth grade students of Junior High
School 27 Medan. This study was conducted by Research and Development
(R & D) design through five phases; gathering information and data, analyzing
data, designing new materials, validating by experts, and producing the final
product. The subject of this study is the eighth grade students of Junior High
School 27 Medan. The data were taken from interviewing the English teacher and
distributing questionnaire for 36 students. Based on the need analysis conducted
the students need speaking materials which were related to their daily life and
could support their learning activity. Thus, developing material is based on
communicative language teaching. The products have been validated by two
experts. The average scores are 4.76 (89%) from the English lecturer and 4.96
(93%) from the English teacher. It was categorize very good. It means that the
developed speaking materials are suitable for the eighth grade students of Junior
High School 27 Medan.
