DEVELOPING ENGLISH READING MATERIALS BASED ON PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING (PBL) FOR THE 10TH GRADE STUDENTS OF COMPUTER ENGINEERING AT SMK SWASTA YWKA MEDAN

This research is aimed to develop the appropriate reading materials based on Problem-Based Learning for the 10th grade students of Computer Engineering at SMK Swasta YWKA Medan. This study is conducted by Research and Development (R & D) design through six phases; gathering information and data, analyzing data, designing new materials based on Local Content, validating by experts, revising new material, and producing the final product. The subject of this study is the 10th grade students of SMK Swasta YWKA Medan. The instruments of collecting data are a combination of two strategies: interview and questionnaires. The interview result was analyzed as qualitative data and the questionnaires were analyzed as quantitative data. These data are needs of students covering target needs and learning needs. The final result was English reading materials based on problem-based learning for the 10th grade students of computer engineering at SMK Swasta YWKA Medan in odd semester based on the needs.
