Abstract
Learning innovation with contextual based is compulsory to be implemented to improve students' competence as required by the KKNI curriculum on the teaching of General Chemistry. It is believed that contextual teaching can bring the chemistry theory in line with chemistry real life. The aim of the research is to provide contextual teaching through innovation of learning material to be used as a learning media on the teaching of Acid-Base. The research steps consisted of innovation of learning material of Acid-Base topic with contextual example, integration of laboratory experiment and learning activities, and implementation of innovative learning material as learning media in the class. Research results showed that a learning package of Acid-Base with innovative and interactive learning material in contextual bases suited to KKNI curriculum has successfully developed. The contextual example integrated in the learning material has bring the Acid-Base topic interesting and easy to learn, and it has been proved to be able to improve students' performance. An innovative and interactive learning material was found to be able to motivate the students for self learning by using available learning resources to make student centre learning style was achieved.
