CODE MIXING OF BATAK TOBA LANGUAGE BY BATAK TOBA TEACHERS TOWARD TEACHERS WITH DIFFERENT ETHNIC IN BREAK TIME

The research deals with code mixing of Batak Toba language among teachers with
different ethnic. The objectives of this study were: (1) To find out the types of
code mixing realized by Batak Toba teachers in break time, (2) To explain the
process of those types realized by them, and (3) To describe the reasons of Batak
Toba teachers mix their language in break time. The research was conducted by
using descriptive qualitative design. The data of this study were words, sentences,
clauses, and phrases of Batak Toba language mixed into Indonesian. The data
were collected by using observation, recording and interview. The technique of
data analysis was interactive model. The finding of this study revealed that: (1)
The types od code mixing realized by Batak Toba teachers in break time are 1)
insertion, 2) alternation, 3) congruent lexicalization, 4) incongruent lexicalization,
(2) There were seven (7) processes of code mixing were realized, they are nested,
content words rather than function words, several constituent, self-correction,
doubling, function word, and Batak Toba language without dialect. (3) there were
eight reasons of using code mixing are 1) talking about particular topic, 2) being
empathic something, 3) expressing group identity, 4) no equivalent
words/meanings, 5) mixing the languages had been habitual, 6) to make the other
people master another language, 7) assuming interlocutors understand our ethnic
language and 8) feeling comfortable
