Abstract
The problem of poverty is a central issue of the government and has always been a priority of the government's goal of increasing economic growth. Poverty is seen as an economic inability to meet basic food and non-food needs as measured by expenditure. The poverty rate that tends to decline slowly over the past few years indicates that government counter-measures are not yet optimal. So the purpose of this study is to analyze Poverty Alleviation Through Social and Economic Indicators for the Province of West Sumatra. This study analyzed 4 variableswere is; percapita income, quality of housing, education and houseold expenditure. Surpricingly, education and houseold expenditure were not significant determinant of poverty. Income Percapita and quality of housing were highly siginificant factor a determinant poverty. Surprisingly, houseold expenditure and educationwere not significant determinant of poverty.while, income percapita and quality of housing were highly siginificant factor a determinant poverty. Government program that help to increas houseold expenditure will out developing human capital or educationare failing to address the root cover of poverty.
