Abstract
This study focused on analysis of the structure and the values of local wisdom applied in Batak Toba Mantra in Porsea. Mantra in Porsea still exists even in this modern era because there’s a belief of Batak Toba people in Porsea to use a mantra in their daily life. It becomes a local wisdom of an ethnic. Batak Toba mantra has a variety structure. To find out the structure and the local wisdom, Batak Toba mantra for positive goals that still exist in Porsea used as the data and analyzed by using Hartarta theory. Interviewing two shamans that have a same categorize has done for collecting the data. The result shows that Batak Toba mantra in Porsea has a variety structure but has the beginning/ purwa, middle/ madya, and end/ wasana. Three of Batak Toba mantras have five elements, another three has two elements and one of Batak Toba mantra has one element. Using a mantra in a society appears some cultural values that classified to local wisdom to describe social life in Porsea. All those values can be categorized in 3 parts first the relationship between human and God have religious values. Religious means the shaman and the patient believe in same God called Ompung MulaJadi Nabolon and all the requests are addressed to Him. Second, the relationship between human have helping value showed the shaman will help whoever comes to him without time limit. Socio-economic appears when the patient gives something to shaman to say thanks or to show the satisfaction. Welfare values mean the shaman and the patient get their own advantages. And the relationship between human and nature have harmony value, human can damage the nature and the nature can attack and give a disease to human so human has to protect the nature
