Abstract
A number of national and international scale surveys showed that mathematics of Indonesian secondary school students were in the lower scale. The present study aims to increase student mathematics achievement at 7th grade secondary School through learning model : Problem Based Instruction and Make a Match. The Classroom action research was conducted for this study and has two cycle with three meetings for each cycles. The subject of research is 42 students at 7th grade Sultan Iskandar Muda Secondary School of Medan and the object of research is students mathematic achievement in whole number topic. The data were collected by using a test question mathematics achievement of whole number and observation sheet of teacher activity questionnaire. Quantitative data analysis involved only a descriptive statistic which included the percentage and mean.The results showed increased mathematic achievement from mean 51,5 (35,71% of students passed the value of mastery learning in diagnostic test), to 70,1 (66,67% of students passed the value of mastery learning in cycle I) and 78,7 (88,1 passed the value of mastery learning in cycle II). The implication of this study were useful for educators to increase students mathematic achievement through Problem Based Instruction and Make a Match.
