LOWER CLASS STRUGGLE AS THE EFFECT OF UPPER CLASS'S OPPRESSION AS REFLECTED IN BONG-JOON HO'S SNOWPIERCER MOVIE

This study dealt with the upper class’ oppression and lower class struggle reflected in Snowpiercer movie. It employs descriptive qualitative research method. This study was aimed to at analyzing: (1) the kinds of oppression experienced by the lower class and (2) the realization of lower class struggle when against the oppression.The data of this study weredialogues, statements and acts that contained the oppression and class struggle. The writer applied the theories from Young (1990) about the oppression and Mbengo (1978) about the class struggle. Based on the analysis, there are four out of five kinds of oppression, namely : (1) Exploitation, (2) Marginalization, (3) Powerlessness, and (4) Violence. One kind of oppression that did not exist is Culture Impearealism. While, all kinds of class struggle are found in the Snowpiercer movie, they are (1) Economic Struggle, (2) Ideological Struggle and (3) Political Struggle. The reason why the lower class did struggle to stop the oppression from the upper class. Is that the lower class fought to survive and get the equality as humans.
