Abstract
This study aims to determine the utilization of biological laboratory in
biology learning concerning the suitability of facilities and infrastructure,
frequency of practice implementation and to know what are the inhibiting factors
in the utilization of biology laboratory in SMA Negeri in Binjai City. The method
used is quantitative analysis with 3 ways of sampling that is cluster sampling for
school, random sampling for student and purposive sampling for teacher. Result
of data analysis of teacher and student questionnaire about the utilization of
laboratory in SMA Negeri in Binjai City got good category with percentage
respectively equal to 74,77% and 68,16%. The result of observation data on the
suitability of laboratory facilities and laboratory condition with Permendiknas No.
24 of 2007 mostly included in the appropriate category that is on the furniture,
props, as well as tools and materials practicum while on other equipment
categorized not appropriate. However, the results of questionnaire data analysis
about the frequency of implementation of practical activities fall into the category
very rarely with a percentage of 36.84%. This indicates the existence of
constraints and inhibiting factors in the utilization of biological laboratories in
schools. These inhibiting factors include insufficient time allocation of incomplete
tools and materials, still unskilled teachers using tools, and the absence of labors
in managing the laboratory is also a factor in the non-optimal utilization of
biological laboratories in SMA Negeri in Binjai City.
