SPEECH ACTS IN RIDWAN KAMIL’S POLITICAL SPEECHES

This research deals with speech acts used in the political speeches. The objectives of this research were: (1) to analyze the types of speech acts in Ridwan Kamil’s Political speeches (2) to explain the way of performing speech acts used (3) to explain the reason why those types speech act are used. The research was a descriptive qualitative research. The data were taken the utterances produced by a candidate of mayor Bandung Ridwan Kamil during in 2013 election campaign videos downloaded from www.YouTube.com. The videos were then transcribed and analyzed. The findings of this study showed that : 1) There are three types of speech act used by Ridwan Kamil in his political speeches in the election campaign, they are locutionary act, illocutionary act and perlocutionary act. The illocutionary acts are distinguished into five types, namely representative, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative. The most used type of speech acts in the election campaign is representative in illocutionary act; 2) Each type of speech act in Ridwan Kamil’s political speeches had different ways in performing speech acts. In speech acts he used direct and indirect speech act more than direct speech act; 3) There were some reasons for using speech act in Ridwan Kamil’s political speeches in the ways they are. They were to convince, to actuate, to stimulate, to inform and to entertain the audiences by utterances that uttered by him. He has an authority to persuade the audience, in order to get the votes and got trust from the audiences.
