Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine (1) the effectiveness of multimedia learning computer in improving learning outcomes of students in teaching chemistry colligative properties to the Group of High and Low groups; (2) differences in learning outcomes of students by teaching chemistry using a multimedia computer than with conventional instruction on teaching colligative properties. The population in this study is the high school class XII students of the three schools in the city of Medan. The sampling technique used purposive sampling based on the final value of chemistry students at the semester when students are in class XI. Each school is divided into two classes, namely class experiments using computers and multimedia classroom multimedia controls that do not use computers (conventional) then in each class consists of a group of high and low groups. From this research it is known that the application of computer multimedia on teaching colligative properties can improve student learning outcomes. It can be seen from the results of the final evaluation of the first to use computer multimedia M = 81.9 ± 9.83, higher than the conventional method M = 67.24 ± 17.4. Thus at the end of the evaluation results, student achievement by teaching multimedia computer is M = 81.93 ± 12.4 higher than the conventional method M = 75.56 ± 11.2. The effectiveness of learning using multimedia computers (99.96%) was higher than that using the conventional method of learning (82.38%). It can be concluded that the multimedia computer is very effective in learning colligative properties of electrolyte.
