Abstract
The thesis deals with interaction in internet relay chat program. 'The study attempt to see
the interaction especially in conversation through intemet as well as to see the special
terms used by user. ft also analyzes the system of the language or the use of the language
whether users convey the sentences both in computer and in natural setting. Several
users of intemet relay chat were observed ns the sample of the research. TI1ey were
invited to chat in a diabguc or in a conversation through channel # bawel as well as
made a short and long conversation. Based on the information obtained, the data were
analyzed. Systemic functional linguistics was applied as the theoretical framework and
the analysis was conducted by applying the pattern of schematic structures (k I, k2,
dkl ,k2f. dal, al, a2, a2f, alf, ch, rch, cl, cf, and ret) of each of the sentence produce"d by
the users. The findings indicate that there were special terms used or produced by the
users, namely : using wcrds in abbreviations and acronyms, using emottcons, and
numbers. 'Ibe findings also described that using emoticons (emotion and icons) and
words in abh reviations and acronyms were toe dominant ones of special terms used.
This shows that the linguistics reaHzations fotmd out in the special terms used by users
