Abstract
The riconoleic of castor oil was dehydrated into dehydrated castor oil (DCO) (mixtured of linoleic and CLA) by various dehydrator (P2O5, K2CO3, H3PO4, NaHSO4, Al2O3, molecular sieve and bentonite activated at 450C with HCL catalyst) on the same condition (150C, mol ration 1:1 and 2 hours). The starting material was refined ricinus castor oil and the composition of component based on GC-MS were 85.06% ricinoleic; 5.56% linoleic; 4.07% octadecanoic; 1.22% stearic and 0.66% palmitic. The specific wave number IR spectra of ricinoleic was bendwith 3411cm-1 caused of hydroxyl (-OH) group at C-12. The best dehydrator was P2O5 based on determine of three parameters were free fatty acid (FFA) nearly the same (1.855% of castor oil and 2.139% of DCO), the most increased of iodium value (49.860% mg/g of castor oil in to 63.090% mg/g of DCO), and most decreased of hydroxyl number (28.27 mg of castor oil in to 17.75 mg/g of DCO). Then based on GC-MS, the decrease of ricinoleic was 14.13% (85.08% of castor oil to 70.93% of DCO) and increased of linoleic predict together with CLA was 17.74% (5.56 of castor oil to 23.03% of DCO). Both wave number of adduct alkene (C=C) group (1666,3 cm-1) of IR spectra of DCO and GC-MS chromatogram's to indicated that dehydration of ricinoleic into DCO (mixtured of linoleic and CLA) was run.
