IMPOLITENESS USED BY HATERS IN CELEBRITIES’ INSTAGRAM

The objectives of the study were 1) to find out the types of language impoliteness which are used by haters in celebrities’ instagram, 2) to describe the realization of language impoliteness used by haters in celebrities’ instagram, 3) to describe the reasons of using language impoliteness which are used by haters in celebrities’ instagram. This research was conducted by descriptive qualitative design. The sources of data were commentator in celebrities’ instagram. The data of the study were the utterances of comment by haters in celebrities’ instagram. The data were identified, analyzed, and categorized based on Culpeper’s theory (1996, 2003). The findings of the study show that: (1) there were four types of language impoliteness found in celebrities’ instagram namely: bald on record impoliteness, positive impoliteness, negative impoliteness, and sarcasm or mock impoliteness, 2) The realizations of language impoliteness were done through be disinterested, unconcerned, unsympathetic, use inappropriate identity markers, use obscure or secretive language, seek disagreement, use taboo words, call the other names, frighten, condescend, scorn or ridicule, Personalize/ Pronoun, and other realizations were found in celebrities’ instagram namely insult and similes. 3) The reasons for using language impoliteness were to vent negative feelings, to entertain the viewers and to serve collective purposes. The new reason was found namely to show disagreement, to show dissatisfaction, to mock the celebrity, and to clarify something.
