Abstract

The objectives of this study were (1) to design interactive teaching model, (2) to describe the effectiveness of teaching learning using this model, and (3) to describe students achievement in mathematics topic on linear equation with one variable at Lower Secondary Level (SMP) in Medan. The population of the study were students at level I SMP consisting of 6 classes. The sample was randomly selected, consisting of 39 students (22 male and 17 female students). The data of the study were students achievement, teaching-learning design, and teaching-learning process based on the observation. The instruments used in this study were achievement test and questionnaire. The data analysis used to test the effectiveness of teaching learning process was inferential statistical analysis, while data analysis used for the questionnaire on students attitude was descriptive statistical analysis. The results of the study show that the interactive teaching-learning model of mathematics was cooperative problem solving with the following steps :group arragement, problems posing, facilitating discussion, and summarizing the learning and the mastery of the students achievement classically was 89,74 % and the students attitude toward the instruction conducted reached 82,05 %, means that the teaching learning with interactive model was effective.
