THE ROLE OF DJANIUS DJAMIN IN THE EDUCATION INSTITUTION IN NORTH SUMATERA (1965-2007)

The objectives of this research are: (1) to know the roles of Djanius Djamin in education in North Sumatera (1965-2007); (2) to identify ideas produced by Djanius Djamin.
This research used Heuristic method that is done by collect and analyze data objectively and systematically by field research and library research. Field research is obtained by direct interview to the sources that can give information related to the objectives of the research, while library research is obtained by written document, such as documents, books and magazines.
The results of this research are: (1) Djanius Djamin is the third children from seven siblings from Minangkabau. This woman is known for her wisdom and discipline in role an institution. So, there is no doubt that she is titled as “female lion”. (2) Djanius Djamin is active in any department, specially education. Start when she was lecture in Institusi Teknologi, North Sumatera in 1965, where she was still 23 years old at that time. Until she became UNIMED rector in 2 periods (1999-2003 and 2003-2007); (3) Djanius Djamin also active in politic, it was proved when she charged to become DPR-GR chairman in Medan in 1968-1972 in her 26 years, the very young age that until nowadays noone can follow her; (4) Djanius Djamin produced ideas, such as books that is her disertation in University Sains Malaysia. The book was out in 2007 with title “Pengawasan Pelaksanaan Undang-Undang Lingkungan Hidup Suatu Analisis Sosial”. In spite of books, she also produced scientific journals where her idea is needed to develop our nation especially in education.
That’s why in North Sumatera has owned a strong woman that has contribution in education and politic and also organization. Hoped that in the future there will born many more biography writer about success woman in our country, especially North Sumatera, also hoped that men and women in North Sumatera, especially momen, able to follow Djanius Djamin as the life example that full with inspiration.
