Abstract
This study deals with Speech Function in Top 25 Michael Jackson’s song. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative design. The data of this study are taken from Top 25 Michael Jackson’s song. The data were classified based on the type of Speech Function. Based on research findings, it was found that they were 528 Speech Function occurred such as Statement was 342 (64.7%), Question was 103 (19.5), Offer was 9 (174%), and Command was 74(14%). The most dominant type of Speech Function was statement. Statement is proved to be the most dominantly used in the script Michael Jackson’s song because that is due to the fact that song deals with the commodity of giving information rather than demanding goods and services.
