Abstract
This study deals with the effect of applying the Semantic Mapping Strategy on the students’ reading comprehension achievement in recount text. It was conducted by using experimental research design. The population of this research was the second year of students of MTS Al-Washliyah Tembung. The samples of the research were two classes which consisted of experimental and control group which were chosen by using random sampling. Forty students were taken as the samples in each class. The experimental group was taught by using Semantic Mapping Strategy, while the control group was taught without using Semantic Mapping Strategy. By using Kuder Richardson (KR-21) formula, it was obtained that the reliability of the test was 0.77 (high). The data were analyzed by using t-test. The calculation shows that t-observed (4.30) was higher than t-table (1.990) at the level of significance (α) 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) 78.The result is if hypothesis stated that there is significantly effect of applying Semantic Mapping Strategy on students’ achievement in reading recount text is accepted.
