Abstract

This study attempted to improve students achievement in writing descriptive text through Example Non Example Technique. This Study was conducted by using classroom action research (CAR). This study was conducted at second year (grade VIII) students of SMP Negeri 1 Limapuluh. The number of the subjects of this research was 34 students. The research was conducted in two cycles. Cycle one consisted of orientation test and three meetings. Cycle 2 consisted of two meetings. The instruments for collecting data (diary notes, observation sheet, and interview sheet). Based on writing tests, students score kept improving in every test. In the first test (orientation test), the mean score was 51,5. The second test in first cycle, the mean was 62,6. The third test in second cycle, the mean was 76,2. Based on the observation test, diary notes and interviewing, it was found that the teaching learning process done well. The students were more active and more enthusiastic in writing descriptive text. Dealing with the data above, it was found that Example Non Example Technique can improve students achievement in writing descriptive text.
