HUBUNGAN ANTARA KEMAMPUAN BERPIKIR KRITIS DAN PENGUASAAN KOSA KATA DENGAN MEMBACA (READING COMPREHENSION) MAHASISWA JURUSAN BAHASA DAN SASTRA FBS UNIVERSITAS NEGERI MEDAN

The objectives of this research is to know the correlation between the critical thought competence toward reading comprehension achievement, the correlation between the vocabulary mastery toward reading comprehension achievement, and the correlation among the critical thought competence and vocabulary mastery toward reading comprehension achievement of English Language and Literary Department students of FBS State University of Medan. This research is done by correlational method. The population of this research is the third semester English Language and Literary Department students of FBS State University of Medan 2011/2012 academic year consisting 130 students. The sample is taken by simple proportional random sampling reaching 38 students. The instruments for collecting data are 1) questionnaire is for the critical thoughts competence, 2) test is for vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension achievement. The data are analyzed by inferential statistics. The results of the research show that there is a significant correlation between the critical thought competence toward reading comprehension achievement in which the value of t calculation (7,937) > t table (1,69), there is a significant correlation between the vocabulary mastery toward reading comprehension achievement in which the value of t calculation (2,705) > t table (1,69), and there is a significant correlation among the critical thought competence and vocabulary mastery toward reading comprehension achievement of English Language and Literary department students of FBS State University of Medan in which the value of f calculation (71,357) > f table (3,22).
