Developing English Writing Materials for Tenth Grade Of Computer and Network Engineering Students in SMK Multi Karya Medan Medan

This study aimed to design English Writing Materials needed for students of Computer and Network Engineering and develop English writing Materials based on Task-Based Learning. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (R&D). The subject of this research was grade X students of Computer and Network Engineering of SMK Multi Karya Medan consisting of 33 students. The language skill was concerned on writing, particularly in descriptive text and recount text. Qualitative data consist of syllabus and existing writing materials. Instrumentation for collecting the data was existing materials, questionnaire and interview. After analyzing the data, the writer got the students’ needs in learning English in term of vocation that they have trough questionnaire and interview. After the students’ needs had analyzed, the new writing materials was developed. The developed writing materials were related to the vocation that the students’ had; it was Computer and Network Engineering. The development of materials followed three stages: those were evaluation and need analysis, developing materials, and materials validation. The developed writing materials were validated by an English teacher and English lecturer with the mean score is 88, which is categorized as “Good” writing materials.
