Abstract

The aims of this research are to investigate : (1) the difference of students achievement in writing recount text taught by using collaborative learning and conventional teaching learning method applications, (2) the difference of the students achievement in writing recount text, who have high and low grammatical competence and the interaction between method applications of teaching and grammatical competence on the students achievement in writing recount text. This study has been done in MTs Teladan Guppi Rantauprapat on the second semester of the 2009/2010. The method of this research is a quasi experimental with 2 x 2 factorial design. The independent variable of this research are (1) methods of teaching and (2) grammatical competence, and the dependent variable is writing recount text achievement. The population of this research was VIII grade of MTs Teladan Guppi Rantauparapat . The sample was taken from two classes (80 students). The first class (VIII.A) taught by using collaborative learning method application and the second class (VIII.C) taught by using conventional learning method application. The instrument used to gather of data: (1) the test of writing recount text result was objective test (40 questions) and (2) the test of Grammatical Competence. The data collected were analyzed with two ways analysis of variance (2x2 ANOVA). The finding of this research show that (1) the students writing recount text achievement taught by using collaborative learning method application is better than by conventional learning methodapplication (fobsaved = 4.19 > = 3.96), (2) there is significant differencebetween writing recount text achievement of student who have high and lowgrammatical competence (fobserved =- 34.03 > = 3.96). (3) there is interactionbetween methods applications and grammatical competence toward writing recount text achievement (fobserved = 14.96 > fr„,,„ = 3.96).
