DEVELOPING ENGLISH SPEAKING MATERIALS FOR GRADE X OF HOTEL ACCOMMODATION STUDY PROGRAM THROUGH CONTEXTUAL TEACHING LEARNING

This study aims to design English speaking materials needed by students of Hotel Accommodation Study Program at SMK N 13 Medan. This study was conducted by using Research and Development (R & D) design through six stages; gathering information and data, designing materials, validating by experts, revising, and final product. The subjects of this study were students of X-1 of Hotel Accommodation Study program consisting 34 students. The instruments for collecting data were questionnaire and interview. The Questionnaires were distributed to 34 respondents and the interview was administrated to the teacher. The interview and questionnaire result prove that the students need English speaking materials which appropriate to their major that is Hotel Accommodation Study Program. Thus, the materials were then developed through Contextual Teaching Learning by implementing REACT (relating, experiencing, applying, cooperating, and transferring). The learning materials were developed into 3 units of speaking materials, they are: Welcome to Grand Aston Hotel, Handling Reservation, and Handling Guest Complaint. The products were validated by two experts; English lecturer and teacher. The average scores were 4.8 from English lecturer and 4.7 from English teacher. It means the developed materials categorized as relevant or appropriate for grade X students of Hotel Accommodation Study Program.
